The successful emergency medical care provider recognizes that competency as a patient care provider is only one of the demands of a career in emergency medical services. Career opportunities and success depend on the ability to fit into multiple roles and adapt to a dynamic, changing environment. In response, the Emergency Medical Care Program is centered around a core of clinical knowledge competencies with an additional emphasis placed on developing skills in leadership, management, communication, learning/education, and research. Coursework is diverse and encompasses issues of patient care as well as the study of EMS systems and theory, management and leadership, and education.
