The profession of diagnostic medical sonography includes general sonography, cardiac sonography, vascular technology, and various subspecialties.
Loma Linda University offers two tracks in the Sonography Program. Each of the two tracks are stand-alone programs and can be taken separately.
Track 1 is the program most people take since it prepares students to be general sonographers in a hospital or clinic. Track 2 is only taken by those who want a cardiac sonograph specialty credential (or echocardiographer).
Track 1:
General Medical Sonography & Vascular Technology
24-month program
Program to prepare for Credential 1 as a Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer and Registered Vascular Sonographer.
Track 2:
Cardiac Sonography
12-month program
Program to prepare for Credential 1 as a Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer.
Academic & Clinical Schedule
Classroom sessions are held once a week for 5 to 7 hours. Clinical training is 32-35 hours per week, Monday through Friday. The student is involved with classes and clinical education from approximately 7:30am to 4:30pm with an hour for lunch. The program includes rotations to 19 different affiliate hospitals for additional clinical training.
