National to Local Perspectives: Converging to Sustain Change
A statewide Mental Health Summit was sponsored by the CalSWEC Mental Health Initiative, with funding support form the Zellerbach Family Foundation, in September 2008.
John Morris, Executive Director of the Annapolis Coalition gave the keynote presentation; followed by Dr. Stephen Mayberg, Director of CA DMH, and Dr. Buckles, Director of Department of Social Work and Social Ecology at Loma Linda University. Their presentations provided a national, statewide and social work education perspective regarding workforce development for the public mental health system and set the stage for the remainder of the day.
A panel of respondents representing strategic stakeholder groups gave reaction comment on the morning presentations, and identified additional areas needing attention to prepare the existing workforce and the newly entering groups.
A highlight of the Summit was the presentation of the Mental Health Curriculum Modules which have been developed by faculty members under support of the Zellerbach Family Foundation Grant. Several schools had also prepared posters describing innovative program elements in support of the Mental Health Curriculum and MH Stipend Program.
