John Fritz, Assistant VP of Instructional Technology & New Media, University of Baltimore County (UMBC)

Description:
Participants will learn the principles of good course design and apply them to a traditional face-to-face course to be delivered as a hybrid (part online, part F2F) course. Using a modified version of UMBC's own workshop, Fritz will provide demonstrations of effective practices and active learning as well as help instructors identify the pedagogical problems hybrid delivery can solve and the new learning opportunities it can create.

Register with your institution's workshop liaison:

LLU - Dr. Marilyn Eggers: meggers@llu.eduLLUMC - Joy Guy: JGuy@llu.eduLSU - Dr. Sandra Green: sgreen@lasierra.edu

LLU Registration:
Due to the high interest in this workshop and the limited number of spaces, each school will be guaranteed to have one participant until April 2, 2009. At that point, any unreserved spaces will be open to those on the waiting list.

John Fritz has given permission to Marilyn Eggers in the Office of Educational Effectiveness to repeat the workshop, if enough interest is generated. The waiting list will be for those who are interested in either taking this particular workshop and/or in possibly having additional Hybrid Course Design workshops.

Read by April 9, 2009:

Read L. Dee Fink's "A Self-Directed Guide to Designing Courses for Significant Learning" (33 pages).

  •
    • Alternately, you can read Fink's "Integrated Course Design," a six- page summary, available at the IDEA Center at Kansas State University.
    • Note: The 33-page version is more "interactive" but the six-page summary gives you a good overview of Fink's thesis
