Our history

1991: Western Association of Schools and Colleges recommendation "to develop an operational definition of its diversity and establish an action plan to move the institution toward realization of this definition in all aspects of campus life."

1991: Development of an office of diversity and appointment of a special assistant to the president for diversity.

1993: Development and implementation of a three-point diversity program (recruitment, retention, and renewal).

1994: Linkage with Oakwood College (a historically Black Seventh-day Adventist college in Huntsville, Alabama) with the School of Medicine and the School of Dentistry.

1997: Appointment of the LLUAHSC vice president for diversity.

1997: The Hispanic Alumni of Loma Linda University Association was formed under the guidance of the DIversity Department at Loma Linda University.

1997: Physical therapist assistant program by distance learning at Oakwood College approved by WASC.

1998: Off-campus master of occupational therapy and master of physical therapy programs voted to be offered at Antillian Adventist University in Puerto Rico.

1998: LLUMC diversity program launched with diversity training conference.

1999: LLUAHSC Crossroads in Diversity and Healthcare training workbook published.

1999: Diversity competency training conducted for LLUMC managers and staff.

2000: LLUMC administratorsÕ Strategic Planning for Diversity retreat conducted.

2000: LLUAHSC video, "Diversity at LLU: Making a Difference," completed.

2000: LLUAHSC vice president for diversity publishes "Embracing Diversity" by Review and Herald.
