Leisure Classes

Leisure classes are a great way to escape life's daily stresses and participate in activities that are beneficial to a healthy lifestyle.  You are welcome to join the class at any time during the current session; however, class prices are not prorated. 


Tennis
Private and group lessons are available with our tennis professional Richard Jimenez, a USPTA-certified teacher.  Lessons are arranged by contacting Richard at (909) 793-5991.

Fees for Private Lessons: $20/half hour; $40/hour

Group Tennis Lessons for Children
Group lessons are offered for beginners to learn the basic fundamentals of tennis.  Classes are divided into two groups: Children aged 5 - 8 years, and 9 - 16 years.  Class size is limited to 12 per age group.  For more information, please call (909) 558-4275.

Dates: Please contact the Membership Office.
Fee: $40 for five (5) weekly lessons.
Instructor: Richard Jimenez


Karate
Teaches the basic techniques beginning with stances, blocks, and turns with children and adults.  Discipline and responsibility for one's own actions are stressed.  Class is continuous and accommodates both beginning and advanced students.  The instructor holds a black belt in karate and is a member of the Aoinagi Karate Do-Jo.  For all ages.

Dates: Ongoing; 10-week course.
Days/Times: Mondays and Wednesdays from 5:00pm to 6:00pm (5 - 17 years); 6:00pm to 7:00pm (18 and older).
Fee: $60

T'ai Chi Ch'uan (Taijiquan)
T'ai Chi Ch'uan is the most popular form of Kung Fu.  It is a low-intensity exercise suitable for all ages - if you can walk, you can practice T'ai Chi. Research has shown it to improve balance, lower blood pressure, and increase aerobic capacit, helping you to relax and reduce your stress.  Students learn O'mei ch'i kung (qigong), basic exercises, silk reeling, and Symmetrical Yang style T'ai Chi Ch'uan form.  Continuing students will learn the Symmetrical Yang long form, pushing hands, San Shou form, stick and sword.  For all ages.

Dates: September 30 - December 9, 2010. (*Class will not be held on November 25*)
Days/Times: Thursdays; 6:30pm - 8:00pm
Fees: $75/member; $85/non-member
Instructor: Harvey Kurland


Team Broadway
This class explores song, movement and acting while students work on dance numbers and scenes from well-known Broadway musicals.  Partiipants gain valuable performance experience from a showcase at the end of the course.  For ages 7 - 16 years.

Dates: August 10 - November 9, 2010. (*Recitals will be held on November 15 & 16, 2010*)
Days/Times: Tuesdays from 5:15pm - 7:00pm
Fees: $90/member, $100/non-member
Instructor: Michael Milligan

Ballet
Learning ballet is wonderful for children (even if they never become dancers), as it teaches flexibility, discipline, and grace.  The core curriculum covers vocabulary, correct placement for the body, and the study of the five basic positions/movements.  Training includes bar and center-floor work.  Dress code is as follows: solid color leotard, pink tights, and pink ballet slippers.  No tutus please.  For children aged 5 - 9 years; class is limited to 12 students.

Dates: September 22 - December 1, 2010. (*Class will not be held on November 24, 2010*)
Days/Times: Wednesdays at 2:45pm (ages 5 - 6 years); Wednesdays at 3:45pm (ages 7 - 9 years). 
Fees: $65/member, $70/non-member
Instructor: Desiree Myers


Judo/Ju-Jitsu
Classes include: Warm-up falling techniques, limited stretching, Judo philosophy, Judo throws, Jujitsu techniques with throws, grappling techniques, limited karate techniques, and Aikido.  For ages 12 and above.

Dates: Ongoing; 10-week course.
Days/Times: Wednesdays from 7:15pm - 8:15pm (beginners); 8:30pm - 9:30pm (advanced)
Fee: $70
Instructor: Chester Lambert


Jazz/Lyrical Movement
Teaches students fundamental movements of lyrical and jazz dance technique.  Across the floor, center exercises, and combinations will be taught which will help children to improve coordination, memory, and the ability to follow directions.  For ages 7 - 15 years; class is limited to 18 students.

Dates: Ongoing; 6-week course.
Days/Times: Mondays from 3:45pm - 5:00pm
Fees: $40/member, $45/non-member
Instructor: Michael Milligan


Creative Movements
A safe and fun educational environment for children to experiment with movement and self-expression.  Teaches introductory skills in the areas of improvisation, rhythm, and body awareness.  For ages 3 - 5 years; class is limited to 12 students.
 
Dates: September 14 - November 16, 2010.
Days/Times: Tuesdays from 3:15pm - 3:45pm
Fees: $65/member, $70/non-member
