PHILOSOPHY
As an outreach program of Loma Linda University Church Ministry, the Children's Center is operated first to educate our young children, and second to meet the needs of the community.
HOURS
For all ages, Monday through Friday, we offer 9 to 10 hour whole-day program that is scheduled between 6 :30a.m. and 6 p.m. Monday through Thursday, and 6:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Friday.
ARRIVAL AND DEPARTURE
For your child's protection, we ask that you 1) sign your child in, 2) accompany your child to the room, and 3) leave your child only after a teacher has accepted your child. You must also sign your child out daily. NO ONE WILL BE PERMITTED TO TAKE A CHILD OFF THE PREMISES WITHOUT WRITTEN CONSENT OF THE PARENT. There may be times when you or your designee are required to present valid picture identification.
SCHOOL CLOSED
The Center is closed on the following major holidays; Martin Luther King Jr.'s Birthday, Presidents' Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day and the Friday after. We close on December 24 at 4pm and reopen the first day after the New Year. We are closed for 3 or more In-Service days. These days will not be credited or exchangeable. These closures are subject to change.
DISCIPLINE
Our center strives to help each child learn and use appropriate behavior. If a child is dangerous to himself or other children, or to school property, we reserve the right to request the removal of your child. Teachers will try to help the child understand that certain behaviors are inappropriate. The child will be spoken to, redirected, engaged in something else, or teacher will model appropriate behavior. We appreciate your help and ideas in dealing with your child. Absolutely no physical punishment will be used with any child.
MEDICATION
There are occasions when a child needs medication. Upon written notification by the child's physician, we will administer medication at the specified time and in the amount indicated. Absolutely NO medication, including over-the-counter drugs, will be given without a doctor's written permission. Store all medications in the center's kitchen and fill out the appropriate paperwork.
POLICY ON ILLNESS
We recognize the difficulty working parents have when their child is ill. However, we ask that you find alternate care when your child is sick. If your child has any symptoms listed below, or is otherwise ill, you will be asked to take your child home.
Upon arrival, each child is checked by a staff member to screen for early signs of illness. The adult who brings the child must wait until the child has been accepted. This is for your child's protection. If your child becomes ill during the day, you will be notified immediately and be asked to come for the child at once. An ill child must be picked up at once for the protection of the sick child and the other children. Your child must be symptom free for 24 hours before returning to school.
ABSENCES
Teachers are concerned when a child is out and would appreciate knowing if your child is sick. If a communicable disease is diagnosed, we need the information for the sake of other children who may have been exposed.
A 50 percent tuition discount is given to each child up to a total of two weeks cumulative absences within the school year (July 1 - December 31 for one week, and January 1 - June 30 for another week) regardless of reason.
EMERGENCIES
If a child is injured while at school, you will be contacted at once. In an extreme emergency, your child will be transported to the emergency room of Loma Linda University Medical Center.
MEALS
We ask you to provide a nutritious sack lunch for your child. Place food items in safe containers and label them with your child's name. Milk is provided to all children. A morning and afternoon snack are provided. The rotation menu is posted on the parent bulletin board. If you are providing your child's snack, please inform his teacher.
CLOTHING
Provide a complete change of clothing for your child with each item labeled and placed in a zip-lock baggie and/or a small backpack. If sandals are used, please make sure they have a securing strap around the heel. Clothing promoting aggressive behavior is inappropriate attire for school wear.
TOYS
To eliminate problems that arise concerning ownership and sharing, we ask that all personal toys be left at home. Exceptions are made for "Show and Tell" day and for stuffed animals at nap time. Toys simulating violent, destructive play may not be brought to school.
NAP TIME
Provide a fitted crib sheet and a small lap blanket for your child. A soft toy may be used at nap time. Please label all items and place in a ziplock baggie or small backpack. Nap is is from 12:30 to 2:30p.m. in the Toddler rooms and 1 to 3 p.m. in all Preschool rooms.
TERMINATION
We require that you give the Center a written fourteen-day notice (intent to quit form) before withdrawing your child in order to apply the security deposit to your account.
NOTE TO PARENTS
This information is provided to acquaint you with Loma Linda Children's Center and to serve as a handy information reference regarding practices, procedures, responsibilities, and benefits for you as a parent. It is not possible, of course, to explain in detail all pertinent information. If you have questions, please consult your child's teacher, the assistant director or the director.
Rearing children is not an easy job; nor is the responsibility a light one. We want parents to feel open to talk over any problems they may be having with their child at home because we may be having the same problems at school. Perhaps together we can come to an understanding of the problem and work together to correct the situation in the best possible way.
We do not have all the answers, but it is our desire to be of assistance, if possible. Your child's teacher is happy to discuss your child with you. However, please do not interrupt teachers when they are busy interacting with the children. If you are not able to talk with the teachers when you are dropping off or picking up your child, please make an appointment to speak with them.
