Apprenticeship Bridge to College (ABC) High School Program
The Apprenticeship Bridge to College (ABC) high school program offers a summer health disparities research project for high school students who will also participate in workshops that will help strengthen them in math, English, and analytical skills. Eligible participants will be high school juniors, or seniors from underrepresented and medically under-served communities who are in the Inland Empire in Southern California.
The ABC program will identify promising high school underrepresented students in science who belong to groups traditionally found underrepresented in biomedical science research. Selected students will participate in a six-week summer program consisting of a laboratory project and enrichment educational activities. These activities will begin the development of analytical reading and writing skills that are critical to becoming a successful biomedical scientist.
Eligibility Requirements
The ABC Program will consider all applications of students that are enrolled in high school. Other considerations are:
- Member of an underrepresented group in a health disparity community (African American, Hispanic American, Native American, and Pacific Islander or other underrepreseted group)
- Junior or senior in high school in "good academic standing" with a minimum 3.3 academic GPA
- Have completed at least two science courses
Application Requirements
- Complete and submit the ABC high school application.
- Submit a 3000 - 4000 character personal statement that includes your future plans and how this program would help you to serve your community.
- Submit three (3) letters of recommendation from high school science and math teachers preferably and high school counselors.
- Submit most current high school transcripts.
- Commitment to complete the 8-weeks of the summer program - it is full time.
