| SYNOPSIS |

There is an increased awareness of the importance of providing analgesia, anxiolysis, and oral sedation in the dental offices. In recognition of this need, oral sedation became an important tool for pediatric dentists to help facilitate providing dental care for apprehensive children. Both the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) and American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry (AAPD) have published a series of guidelines for the monitoring and management of pediatric patients during and after sedation to help provide safe and efficient sedation for children. This sedation course is intended for pediatric dentists and general dentists who have had training in sedation during their graduate or residency training programs and intend to renew their sedation permits. The course will review sedation techniques, patient selection, pharmacology of commonly used sedatives, management of sedation emergencies, and other related topics. |
