| SYNOPSIS |
| In honor of the 50th year celebration for the Advanced Education Program in Orthodontics at Loma Linda University, we’ve put together an interdisciplinary seminar geared for the entire dental team, including general dentists, specialists, dental hygienists, and assistants. |
| OBJECTIVES |
|
Earl’s Pearls and Shortening Treatment Time Presented by Earl Johnson, DDS
Dr. Johnson has written a column “Earl’s Pearls” in the Pacific Coast Society of Orthodontists (PSCO) Bulletin for several years. He will present many techniques, short cuts, tips and protocols that he has collected or developed over 38 years of clinical practice. Only some of these have been printed in the PSCO Bulletin. Many more will be presented during the lecture. Everybody will at some time say ”Wow, that is a slick technique” while at another time, say “Whatever, I already knew that.”
The average for treatment time in Southern California was found to be 28 months with a standard deviation of 12 months. Your average treatment time can be drastically reduced if attention is paid to some very basic tenants. Dr. Johnson will discuss things that you, the clinician, can do to reduce your overall treatment time and to produce more consistent results.
Interdisciplinary Treatment Planning Presented by Gerald Nelson, DDS
Dr. Nelson will present some of the cases in progress in the UCSF Orthodontic Clinic. He will discuss the treatment planning process that residents use to develop a treatment plan for interdisciplinary cases. Participants will gain knowledge from the cases presented, and the treatment planning protocols will help decision making in their practices.
