Review of Pain Neurophysiology
| SYNOPSIS |
| This presentation will review current concepts of pain neurophysiology and processing. Where relevant, drugs used in anesthesia and sedation will be highlighted to show how they likely act on pain perception. |
| OBJECTIVES |
1. Understand the different dimensions of the pain experience 2. Understand pathways and receptors involved in pain processing 3. Understand pain pathways that are altered by various anesthetic/sedative drugs 4. Understand the unique characteristics of the Trigeminal pain processing system |
Differential Diagnosis of Non-Odontogenic Toothache
| SYNOPSIS |
| The dentist is frequently confronted with dental/oral pain that is not tooth related. The differential diagnosis of various neuropathic, neurovascular and vascular causes of mouth and face pain will be reviewed along with case presentations. |

| SYNOPSIS |
| The presentation will review contemporary issues in the administration of local anesthetics in dentistry and medicine. |

Local Anesthetic Pharmacology
| SYNOPSIS |
| This presentation will review concepts of pharmacology relating to local anesthetics that are currently being utilized in dentistry. It will also address the systemic effects and drug interaction with commonly prescribed medications in relation to local anesthetics. |
| OBJECTIVES |
1. Reviewing basic concepts of pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics 2. Understanding pharmacology specific to local anesthetics used in practice today 3. Reviewing the basic pharmacology and necessity of vasoconstrictors used with local anesthetics |
