Dr Johnson is an Assistant Professor in the department of Oral Diagnosis Radiology and Pathology since 2006. A native of Barbados, Dr Johnson left home in 1994 to complete a BS degree in Medical Technology at Northern Caribbean University, Jamaica in 1996. He then graduated with a PhD in Microbiology and Molecular Genetics in 2004 from Loma Linda School of Medicine and a DDS degree with honors in IV sedation and Oral surgery in 2008 from Loma Linda University School of Dentistry. He has been an educator for the last 13 years and has been the recipient of numerous awards for scholarship and leadership. He is currently the Chair of the LLUSD Research committee that oversees all research activity in the School of Dentistry and approves funding as is necessary for several graduate student and faculty research every year.
Dr Johnson’s research interests center around understanding the complex interactions of the oral microbial flora and the development of novel antimicrobial peptides in the oral cavity and in natural plant flora indigenous to the Caribbean. He is a member of numerous professional organizations including the American Society for Microbiology, the International Association for Dental Research and the dental honor society Omicron Kappa Upsilon.
Dr Johnson is an avid reader and also enjoys racquetball in his spare time.
