Dr Lu is associate professor of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Director of the Philip Boyne OMFS Bone Research Laboratory at Loma Linda University School of Dentistry. Dr Lu has extensive research, clinic and teaching experience in several dental schools in China, Australia, Hong Kong, Canada and US. She got her PhD in University of Hong Kong in 2003, followed by a three-year postdoctoral research fellowship at the University of British Columbia, Canada. She got her 2nd DDS at the International Dentist Program at Loma Linda University in 2008. Dr Lu is currently working on a project that is funded by a grant of $500,000 sponsored by Medtronic Ltd, a project on a new bone filling material containing bone morphologic protein (BMP). Her main research interests include bone physiology, bone graft and bone regeneration, a growth factor family called bone morphogenetic protein (BMP); genetic and molecular cause of clefts Lip and palate, and its gene therapy; and oral cancer.
Dr Lu is also the course director of Research Design for 3rd year and 4th year dental students at Loma Linda University School of Dentistry. Her students won the 9 of possibly 16 winner groups at Table Clinic competition in California Dental Association Annual Meeting in 2009.
