Biographical Synopsis

Wu Zhang, MD 

Dr. Wu Zhang is Associate Professor and Director of Research Service Core. Her primary research interests include mineralized tissues, pharmacological and biological effects of fluoride, biocompatibility and toxicological evaluation of dental materials, biofilm, and oral odor. She has over 120 publications in scientific journals, and made dozens presentations at national or international meetings. She has participated in several projects supported by NIH grants (as a co-investigator) in pharmacological effects of fluoride, collaborated internationally to establish standard methods for fluoride analysis. She has been involved in ANSI/ADA Specification 107, “Chemical agents for the control of biofilm in dental unit water system” and participating in round robin tests to establish an U.S. standard for prevention, inactivation and removal of biofilm in DUWLs. She is the founder of the School’s Sterilization Assurance Service in 1998 and Dental Unit Waterline Testing in 2000 to serve health care professionals. She conducted more than four million dollars research projects in the areas of biocompatibility of dental materials, fluoride, mineralized tissues, dental waterlines and infection control, and has worked with students, faculty and visiting researchers for their research needs.
