The first part of research is devoted to identifying a research project, preparing a proposal, and obtaining approval for the protocol.

PEDN 725 Pediatric Dental Clinic 64 units
Clinical pediatric dental experience in both the outpatient and inpatient settings for patients with a variety of clinical needs and problems. A minimum of 240 clock hours per quarter (8qtrs) are required to fulfill the total units of 64.
GRDN 535 Clinical Oral Pathology 2 units
Emphasizes oral manifestations of disease. Diagnosis, prognosis, and treatment of the various oral neoplasms.
GRDN 601 Practice Management 2 units
Prepares student for specialty practice. Concepts of employment, records, incorporating, insurance, and practice planning.
GRDN 609 Professional Ethics 2 units
Provides students with a theological and philosophical framework for professional ethics. Topics include individual rights, autonomy, informed consent, and the responsibilities of the professional person in the dental field, as well as in society as a whole.
GRDN 622 Biomedical Sciences I (Part 1 and Part 2) 4 units
Advanced, two-quarter course offered every other year (alternating with GRDN 623) during autumn and winter quarters. Course content includes applied oral bacteriology, immunology, topics in oral medicine, applied pharmacology, TMD, and orofacial pain. Since the course is constructed on an advanced level of understanding students are expected to have prior basic knowledge in the various topic areas.

Fundamentals of anatomy as it applies to a special region or application.
ORDN 545 Growth and Development 3 units
Principles of growth and development from the subcellular to the tissue level. Emphasizes myogenesis and osteogenesis. Prenatal and postnatal development of the face and jaws, including the classic concepts of facial growth. Considers general growth, with the goal of developing ability to recognize abnormal signs, observe variations, diagnose pathological conditions, know the normal, predict height, and use various standards to assess growth and development.
ORDN 606 Craniofacial Genetics 2 units
Basic genetics. Introduces craniofacial clinic.
ORDN 608 Physiology and Pathology of Speech 1 unit
Studies specific areas of oral myofunctional disorders that influence the occlusion.
ORPA 533 Radiology 2 units
Utilization of the physical nature of x-rays to better understand image production, biological effects of x-rays, radiation safety, application of principles of radiographic techniques. Risk estimation and radiographic interpretation.
PEDN 503 Pediatric Dental Seminar 2 units
Selected clinical topics in pediatric dentistry. Repeated registrations are required to fulfill the total units.
PEDN 508 Pediatric Hospital Dentistry Seminar 2 units
Hospital protocol and the care of patients in a hospital environment.
PEDN 512 Oral Sedation Seminar 2 units
Pharmacology, medical considerations, clinical applications, and protocols for oral sedation.
PEDN 521 Principles of Medicine and Physical Diagnosis 2 units
Medical and physical diagnosis for the pediatric dental patient.
PEDN 524 Introduction to Orthodontics 2 units
Diagnosis and treatment planning for clinical orthodontics.
PEDN 524L Introduction to Orthodontics (Laboratory) 1 - 2 units
Fabrication of various orthodontic appliances.
PEDN 604 Pediatric Dental Literature 2 units
Pediatric dental literature study including that found on the reading list of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry. Repeated registrations are required to fulfill the total units.
PEDN 654 Pediatric Dental Teaching 1-5 units
Experience in the teaching of pediatric dentistry in a clinical and laboratory setting. Repeated registrations are required to fulfill the total units.
PEDN 680 Elective Study 1 unit
Elective study is selected by students in the advanced education program in pediatric dentistry and department faculty. Repeated registrations are required to fulfill the total units.
RELE 524 Bioethics and Society 3 units
Explores, from Christian and philosophical perspecives, issues confronting both society and patients. Uses case studies to illustrate such themes as health disparities, AIDS policy, end-of-life care, and organ transplantation.
