ADA, CDC, and CDA recommend the use of biological indicators to monitor sterilization on a weekly basis. The Sterilization Assurance Service (SAS) provides two biological monitoring programs, Intensive and Basic, both of which use sport tests. These are reasonably priced, convenient ways to monitor your sterilizers. We serve numerous dental offices, community colleges, special programs, and governmental institutions around the nation and have 11 years experience.

Based on CDC’s Guidelines (2003) for Infection Control in Dental Health-Care Settings, the number of heterotrophic bacteria in water used as a coolant/irrigant for nonsurgical dental procedures should be as low as reasonably achieved, with a minimum of ≤500 CFU/mL. This is the same regulatory standard for safe drinking water established by EPA and APHA/AWWA. Since 2000, we have provided dental unit water testing for dentists and identified potential microbiologic problems in DUWLs. We are actively involved in the ANSI/ADA team for Specification 107, “Chemical agents for the control of biofilm in dental unit water system.” We are also participating in round robin tests to establish a U.S. standard for prevention, inactivation, and removal of biofilm in DUWLs. We also work closely with manufacturers to evaluate the efficacy of new products on DUWLs disinfection by using the standard DUWL biocide test apparatus.
• Professional water testing in laboratory
• Report with EXACT heterotrophic bacteria counts
• Sterilized containers and ice packs provided
• Written report: 8 to10 days later
• Certificate: when all test results meet CDC goal (≤ 500 CFU/ml)
