Mission Statement

Building on Our Past

The Heritage Research Center, comprised of the Department of Archives and Special Collections, University Libraries and the Ellen G. White Estate Branch Office, exists to capture and document the history and legacy of Loma Linda University Adventist Health Sciences Center (LLUAHSC), Ellen G. White, the Seventh-day Adventist Church, and the health sciences with particular attention to where health and Adventism intersect.

Additionally, the Department of Archives and Special Collections is charged with maintaining the administrative, fiscal, and legal records for LLUAHSC, and serves as the main repository for Loma Linda University’s holding of rare books and manuscripts.

The White Estate Branch Office at LLU has the further mission to preserve, promote, guide, and facilitate an understanding of Ellen G. White's life, writings, and role within the general history of Seventh-day Adventist Church and Loma Linda University in particular. Being one of the founders of Loma Linda University, Ellen White's legacy is an important part of its history and future development.

The Center acquires, arranges, describes, preserves, and makes available materials of enduring and intrinsic value, both for intellectual content and as historical artifacts, to support the research needs of students, faculty, and staff at LLUAHSC, and in the broader research community. The Center has an ethical obligation to make its holdings available to all researchers on equal terms regardless of affiliation. It strives to be an historical resource, inspiring all, by developing exhibits, teaching classes, conducting seminars and other outreach activities that demonstrate the University’s commitment “To Make Man Whole.”
