Loma Linda University Libraries Research Guides

Online sources are available at the Del Webb and Jesse Libraries.

Distance education students ~ International

A growing number of the library's resources are web-based, accessible from computer terminals with web access throughout the world. The purpose of this research guide is to assist LLU international distance education students make the most of the Del E. Webb Memorial Library's web site <http://www.llu.edu/library>.

Library password:
You will be prompted for the following information when you attempt to access LLU restricted information from the web site, including databases and online journals:

  • Your name (as used on your LLU registration paperwork)
  • Your barcode number* (distributed by the LLU program coordinator)
  • Your PIN number (a code you select the first time you login)

You can change your password by logging in to the "My account" option at the top right corner of the library's web site, <http://www.llu.edu/library>. Contact your LLU program coordinator if you forget your barcode number.

*Students studying at the LLU campus receive student ID cards with the barcode number already assigned.

Bibliographic databases:
These databases are used to identify articles and books on a specific topic. Click on the "Databases" button from the library's web site <http://www.llu.edu/library>. You will be prompted for your library login and password at this point. The databases with full-text included in the databases are indicated on the screen.

Library catalog:
The library catalog lists which books and journals the library owns, including online full-text journals and books. Click on the "Library catalog" button from the library's web site <http://www.llu.edu/library>. When online access is available, a full-text link will be present at the individual record level. You will be prompted for your library login and password to access most full-text resources available through the catalog.

Search assistance:
Reference librarians are available to help with search topics. Click on the "Library services" button from the library's web site <http://www.llu.edu/library>. Select the "Free literature searches" option, complete the form and submit the request. A librarian will search your topic, find related references and email back the results.

Popular search strategies:

  • Search bibliographic databases that contain full-text articles. Print or email yourself the results. The bibliographic databases from EBSCO, as indicated on the database list, have Spanish, French and German translation option available on all full-text articles.
  • Search the PubMed bibliographic database for extensive coverage of medical and health related topics. The library's journal holdings are displayed next to articles from journals the library owns. The purple button "LLU Fulltext Online," indicates that you can access that journal online through the library catalog by doing a journal title search.
