Dental hygiene alumna receives honor

Dr. Sharon Golightly

Sharon Golightly, DH'64, MSEd, EdD, has received the Martha Fales Award, the highest award given by the Washington State Dental Hygiene Association. The award honors an outstanding dental hygienist for his/her contributions in furthering dental hygiene in Washington state, and Dr. Golightly is only the ninth recipient of this recognition.

Dr. Golightly has been instructor and director of the Pierce College dental hygiene program in Tacoma, Washington, for 25 years. She has chaired the National Dental Hygiene Program Directors, served as a western Regional Examining Board Faculty Representative, and led in the ADHA and California and Washington state dental hygiene associations. She was instrumental in the establishment of the Washington Dental Hygiene Examining Committee, which made Washington the first state in the nation to have any kind of dental hygiene self-regulation.

She has also received the Warner-Lambert Award for Dental Hygiene Excellence in 1998 and was named the LLU Dental Hygiene Alumna of the Year in 1999.
