Kent Hansen, attorney, and Shelby Jernigan will present
a sexual harassment seminar on Monday, April 24, from noon to 1 p.m.;
and Wednesday, May 10, noon to 1 p.m. Attendance for this seminar is mandatory.
Attendance sheets will be provided for employees to sign. The seminar
will be held in Rooms 1101-1102.

* Mark your schedules for Friday, April 21, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.: The annual
School of Dentistry Employee Appreciation Day celebration will be held
in the Wong Kerlee International Conference Center. Light refreshments
served.
* Thursday, May 11, is the annual LLU Employee Benefits Fair, with drawings,
freebies, and food on the campus lawn near Prince Hall. Remember to bring
the card from your paycheck packet, to enter the drawing for Grand Prize.

* Congratulations to Cari Mace, IDP dental assistant, who received
her CDA.
Dental Hygiene
* Rhonda Hamerslough, BS, instructor, and Karen Simpson,
DH'66, MPH, assistant professor, will be attending the AADS meeting in
Washington, DC.
* Joni Stephens, DH'69, MSEd, professor of dental hygiene, will
be attending the International Association of Dental Research. She will
give a poster presentation, Long Term Usage of an Antimicrobial Rinse
for Reducing Bacteria in Dental Unit Waterlines, co-authored by James
D. Kettering, PhD, professor of microbiology.
* We have several new part-time per diem faculty members in dental hygiene.
They are Corey Steinbrunn, DH'97, Shirley McIntire, DH'97,
and Marilynn Goulard Heyde, DH'74. Their primary responsibility
will be clinical instruction.
Educational Support Services
* Richard Cross, photographic coordinator, is spending three weeks
in Pakistan, filming and photographing a SIMS mission trip. Quint Nicola,
SD'69, and Royce Nicola, SD'00, will be supervising and participating.
Look for photos and Richard's journal in the next Dentalgram.
* Hyveth Williams, DMin, senior pastor of Campus Hill SDA Church, and
adjunct professor in the Faculty of Religion, recently published her second
book, the 2000 Book of the Year for the Seventh-day Adventist Church.
The book is titled Anticipation: Waiting on Tiptoes for the Lord.
Dr. Williams wrote in the acknowledgements, "I could not have written
this book without the assistance of Christy Robinson, editorial
coordinator for the Loma Linda University School of Dentistry, who read
and edited my first draft..."

* Congratulations to Roland D.W. Neufeld, SD'74, MS'76, orthodontic
clinic director and assistant professor, and his wife Terri Alfred
Neufeld, DDS, MS'95, on the birth of their new son, Connley Hayden
Alfred Neufeld. He arrived on Friday, March 10, at 10:44 pm, weighing
8 lbs, 15.75 ozs, and measuring 20.5 inches long.
* David Rynearson SD'71, MS'87, assistant professor of orthodontics,
recently had an article published in the March 2000 issue of International
Journal of Heart and Lung Transplantation. The abstract is on PubMed,
the National Library of Medicine search engine, http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/PubMed/
Type "Rynearson" into the search box, and the article should
come up. The article was researched with DG Niles, Marti Baum,
MD (Dr. Lloyd Baum's daughter), Dr. Roland Neufeld, and
Dr. Joseph Caruso.
Restorative Dentistry

* Robert Riegel, DDS, MS, professor of restorative dentistry,
retired on March 1, 2000, and School colleagues and friends honored him
with a party. The plaque presented to him by Douglass Roberts,
SD'66, MS'77, chair of the department, read: "Loma Linda University
School of Dentistry wishes to recognize Robert Riegel, DDS, MS, Chief,
section of removable prosthodontics, department of Restorative Dentistry,
and wishes to honor him for 10 years of exemplary caring Christian service
to students, patients, faculty and staff."
* Guillermo Bernal, DDS, MSD, associate professor of restorative
dentistry, received news on February 29, that he passed his Boards and
that he is now Board certified by the American Board of Prosthodontics.
He worked very hard to achieve this: ususally, it takes up to four years
to prepare for the exam and he did it in 13 months, and passed the exam
on his first try. He received support and cooperation from both the restorative
and biomaterials research departments and especially his wife, Dr. Claudia
Prieto. We congratulate him on this great achievement.
* We are proud to announce that Dr. Perikilis Proussaefs received
first place in the poster presentation for the Academy of Osseointegration,
the week of March 6. Dr. Proussaef's presentation was entitled, The Use
of Autogenous Intramembranous Block Grafts in Vertical Ridge Augmentation.
Dr. Proussaefs has completed the fellowship program in implant dentistry
and is currently completing the advanced prosthodontics program. Jaime
Lozada, DDS, PG'97, PG'95, professor and director of the implant dentistry
advanced education program, along with the entire department, wish to
congratulate Dr. Proussaefs on his accomplishment. Dr. Lozada has a copy
of this poster, if you are interested in viewing it.
