The first scholarships from the Arlene and Judson Klooster Scholarship Endowment have been awarded to Mark Harris and Michael Stafford, both members of the dental class of 2003.

Mark was born in California, graduating from La Sierra University with a degree in biochemistry. Among his many activities while at LSU, he served as present of the Student Association during his junior year.

Michael was born while his parents were missionaries in Burundi. He graduated from Walla Walla College, serving as a youth pastor during summers.

NASDAD sponsors Senior Daze

Seniors get prizes melissa wages
Senior students accept prizes drawn from numbered tickets at the Senior Daze. Melissa Wages, SD'00, is excited to have won a high speed fiber optic handpiece at the Senior Daze program. Dr. Ron Forde presented it to her.

On March 15, the National Association of Seventh-day Adventist Dentists (NASDAD) hosted the senior dental class for the annual Senior Daze program. Held in conjunction with the final session of the Practice Management Class directed by Tom Rogers, SD'83, assistant professor of dental educational services, Senior Daze is staged to invite seniors to continue their membership in NASDAD after graduation.

The affair began with William Heisler, SD'59, professor of restorative dentistry and immediate past president of NASDAD, giving a brief history of the organization. He then reviewed his own experience of what LLU School of Dentistry meant to him when he and six other students transferred here from the University of Oregon (now Oregon Health Sciences University) School of Dentistry in 1956 because the Dean decided that all students would have to attend Saturday classes and clinics.

Ron Forde, SD'83, assistant professor of restorative dentistry and director of the service learning program, spoke to the students about his experience as a dental missionary for 12 years in Africa.

The program continued with a delicious meal served by Florence Wetmore, Dr. and Mrs. Heisler, and Kelly and Robert Johnson. After the meal, drawings were held for door prizes. There were a large number of items to be awarded, but everyone waited anxiously for the Grand Prize, a high speed fiber optic handpiece, donated by Clinic Administration. After all other prizes had been awarded, the number on the first ticket drawn was revealed. The prize went to Melissa Wages.

Several members of the senior class expressed their appreciation for the program and stated that this event was a high point at the end of an unusually tense period just before the Western Regional Boards and when the class is trying to finish their dental school experience and enter the real world of the dental profession.

NASDAD wishes each member of the class success and God's richest blessings.
