Continuing Dental Education

Annabelle Galvan, department secretary, and Leo Galvan, dental maintenance, welcomed baby Aleah Lauren Galvan on March 21, 2002.


Dental Educational Services

Frank Cortez-Flores, DDS, PhD, MS, MPH, is a reviewer in the peer review meeting for residency training in general and pediatric dentistry grant program, Department of Health and Human Services, U.S. Public Health Service, Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA), Bureau of Health Professions, Office of Peer Review. The peer review will take place in Washington D.C./Rockville, Maryland, area May 6 to 9.


Endodontics

Marjorie Sweet has joined the department as a part-time secretary. She is completing a communication disorders program at University of Redlands, with a music minor and enjoys baking and decorating cakes as a hobby.

Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery

Philip J. Boyne, DMD, MS, DSc, was an invited lecturer March 22, at the American Academy of Implant Dentistry Annual Western District Meeting, Universal City, California. His topic was “State-of-the-art in bone grafting and bone inductor in implant surgery.”
Robert W. Mower, SD ’98,chief resident, oral and maxillofacial surgery program, was an invited lecturer March 21, at the American Academy of Implant Dentistry Annual Western District Meeting, Universal City, California. His topic was “Tibial Bone Grafting for Implant Dentistry.”


Oral Diagnosis, Radiology and Pathology

Lane Thomsen, SD’65, MS’74, associate professor, has joined with Educational Horizons Online, <edhonline.com> to offer review courses for dental hygienists in head and neck anatomy, anatomy and physiology, and pathology review.


Restorative Dentistry


Yiming Li, DDS, MSD, PhD, professor of restorative dentistry and a consultant of the American Dental Association (ADA) since 1999, has been appointed as ADA’s representative to standards committee on dental products.


Service Learning

Please drop by the office of service learning and welcome Janelle Bietz as administrative secretary. Janelle’s husband is Ken, and they are parents to 12-year-old Everett and 10-year-old Amanda. Janelle enjoys reading, camping, and sewing projects in her spare time.
Ron Forde (left), SD’83, director, service learning, and Doyle Nick(right), SD’78, assistant professor, restorative dentistry, presented a poster at the American Dental Educational Association meetings in March on the subject of Service Learning. It had a very good reception from educators from other dental schools.
