Drs. Joseph Kan, Kitichai Rungcharassaeng, Jay Kim,
Jaime Lozada and Charles Goodacre were awarded the 2002 Judson
C. Hickey Scientific Writing Award in the Clinical Report Category
for their article, Factors Affecting the Survival of Implants
Placed in Grafted Maxillary Sinuses: A Clinical Report. Prosthet
Dent 2002;87:485-9 presented by the editorial council
of the Journal of Prosthetic Dentistry.

Periklis Proussaefs
|
Drs. Jaime Lozada, Greg Kammeyer and Periklis Proussaefs were
presented with the 2002 Judson C. Hickey Scientific Writing Award
in the Dental Technology Category for their article, Conversion
of a Complete Denture to a Provisional Implant-Supported, Screw-Retained
Fixed Prosthesis for Immediate Loading of a Completely Edentulous
Arch. J Prosthet Dent 2002;87:473-6.
Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery
|
Members of the faculty and residency training program of the
department of oral and maxillofacial surgery participated in
the 10th International Congress on Reconstructive Preprosthetic
Surgery in Palm Springs April 4 to 7, 2003. Philip Boyne was
a keynote speaker on the subject of Application of Basic
Science to Reconstructive Surgery. |
| Alan Herford, DDS, MD, chair, and program director,
won first prize for his poster on distraction osteogenesis, Use
of a Plate Guided Distraction Device for Transport Distraction
Osteogenesis of the Mandible. He also presented a paper
on distraction osteogenesis. |

Brett King, DDS, third-year resident in oral and maxillofacial
surgery, presented a paper on anterior tibia bone grafts, Medial
Approach for Tibial Bone Graft: Anatomic Study and Clinical Technique. The
Congress was very well attended, with international colleagues
from Europe. |
Welcome

Student Life
Congratulations! D4s Sean Gubler, Elizabeth Park, and Michael
Stafford successfully completed the Advanced Cardiac Life Support Provider
Course in February. The next level after Basic Life Support, ACLS includes
didactic and hands-on teaching in defibrillation, advanced airway management,
dysrhythmia recognition, ECGs, and intravenous medications. The students
learned life-saving skills that complement CPR and teamwork necessary for a
successful resuscitation.
