Featured employee of the month—Leigh Ann Evans

Leigh Ann Evans, administrative assistant, department of admissions, was named Featured Employee of the Month for March.

Leigh Ann Evans was chosen as the first Featured Employee of the Month during the Keeping Connected meeting held Friday, February 28.

Leigh Ann has worked as an administrative assistant in the department of admissions for two years. For many students, interaction with the department is the first contact they have with the dental school.

This year, more than 1,000 people applied to the School of Dentistry through American Association of Dental Schools Application Service (AADSAS).

As disks with applicant information are received from AADSAS, Leigh Ann assists Sylvia Davis, MS, director of admissions, updating status levels, attends admissions committees, and prepares statistical admissions data for various reports. She also provides information that helps keep the department’s web pages timely and useful for prospective students.

Before transferring to the admissions department, she worked in the dean’s office. In 2000, using the Astound program, she assisted Charles Goodacre, DDS, MSD, dean, and Jaime Lozada, DDS, professor and director, graduate program in implant dentistry, in the development of the Implant Dentistry CD-ROM.

She began working for Loma Linda Home Health care in 1993 as a staff assistant, preparing statistical reports. Three years later she transferred to human resource management and worked in benefits and employment.

“The dental school really is like a family,” she says. “There is a spirit of cooperation among the departments that contributes to a great working environment.”

In her spare time, Leigh Ann enjoys growing orchids (she now has more than 150 orchid plants from as far away as Mexico and Guatemala), knitting, and flying.
