Strategic planning training seminar held July 26

Fifty-six staff and two faculty members attended a strategic planning training seminar Friday, July 26. The seminar was presented by Joseph Caruso, SD’73, MS’75, MPH, chair and director, advanced education program in orthodontics and dentofacial orthopedics, and Thomas Rogers, SD’83, MPH, MA, assistant professor, dental educational services.

The seminar was for those who had not participated in a department training session, and was an opportunity for staff to become aware and involved in strategic planning integrated action plans.

Through the applied strategic planning process, members of an organization envision its future and develop necessary procedures and operations to achieve that future. The process builds upon aspirations rather than limitations as actions each day create desired change.

Dr. Loveless gave the group tools to use to enhance communication and demonstrated a technique that leads to better communication. Then Dr. Caruso showed the group how to accomplish goals using integrated action plans.

To date, more than 230 School of Dentistry faculty and staff have participated in strategic planning training sessions.
