University holds Education Faire and Conference 2000

The School of Dentistry participated in a significant way at the January 20 Education Faire and Conference, held in the Coleman Pavilion. The conference was presented by the LLU faculty development committee on education, and chaired by Gail Rice, EdD, professor of physical therapy.

The conference, targeted to LLU faculty and the faculty of nearby colleges and universities, featured the School of Dentistry's Drs. Steven Morrow, Doyle Nick, and George Lessard, and Patty Hoerner and Michelle Rice, among other university professors and teachers.

Steven Morrow, SD'60, PG'84, associate professor of endodontics, presented Use of Small Group Guided Seminars in Didactic Clinical Instruction -- Development, Implementation, and Outcomes Assessment of a Pilot Study. This presentation was a report on the development, implementation, and outcomes assessment of a pilot study using small group guided seminars for instruction in the application of clinical techniques in endodontic therapy.

George Lessard, PhD, professor of dental educational services and biochemistry, presented a poster, Developing a Web Page for a Problem-Based Learning (PBL) Small Group. Dr. Lessard won third place for his presentation.

Doyle Nick, SD'78, PG'94, assistant professor of restorative dentistry, won first place for his poster presentation, Making a Game of the Review Session.

Michelle Rice, supervisor in the Center for Prosthodontics and Implant Dentistry, and Patty Hoerner, assistant director of continuing dental education, presented Classroom Computer Presentations and Web Conferencing, which demonstrated what it took to create an online interactive continued dental education course from the idea to the design and creation to the final product appearing on the Web.
