Learn to deal with challenging people

No one likes to deal with difficult people, yet doing so is a fact of life. What should you say when faced with a challenging situation? How can you defuse a stressful situation?

Sam Horn, President of Life Balance, Inc., will provide solutions to these everyday dilemmas during a family enrichment seminar, "Tongue Fu!," on Thursday, February 8, from 9:00 a.m. to noon. The event, part of the School of Dentistry Alumni Student Convention, is sponsored by the National Dental Auxiliary.

According to Ms. Horn, the event is not a lecture, but an active learning experience where the audience will participate while gaining communication tools each person can begin to use immediately.

She will show the positive result that occurs when all parties come together to sincerely resolve an issue--in an atmosphere where everyone can win.

"Another name for the seminar,” says Ms. Horn, "could be 'Fun Fu,' as it will include ways to handle hassles with humor."

Ms. Horn has spoken before a wide variety of well-known clients including Hewlett-Packard, Fortune 500 Forum, National Governors Association, and Four Seasons Resorts. Those who attend the seminar will learn skills to:

  • persuade others to stop, listen, and see your point of view;
  • think on your feet so you're never at a loss for words;
  • keep emotions and tempers under control;
  • use "tongue glue” to keep from saying something you'll regret;
  • not let rude patients, co-workers, or kids ruin your day;
  • learn how to better reflect the values you believe in.
