The public is invited to hear well-known actor, radio host, author, and composer Pat Boone, the featured speaker for the Homecoming Banquet on February 8 at 6:30 p.m. in Wong Kerlee International Conference Center, Coleman Pavilion. Since 1983, "The Pat Boone Show, classified as a "Contemporary Christian program, has been broadcast from the Boones's home in Beverly Hills to radio stations around the world. Mr. Boone's first book, Twixt Twelve and Twenty, sold more than 1 million copies. Royalties from the guide for teenagers were donated to Northeastern Institute of Christian Education, and Boone Hall still stands there. Since then, his solo efforts have included A New Song which topped 1 million in sales, Between You, Me, and the Gatepost, The Care and Feeding of Parents, Pray to Win, and in 1991, The Human Touch: The Story of Easter Seals. Mr. Boone has served as spokesman, national chair, and host of the Easter Seal Society Telethon since 1981. In 1979, he and his wife, Shirley, helped found Mercy Corps, an internationally acclaimed world hunger organization which now addresses hunger in crisis spots globally, with a growing annual budget of more than $30 million. In 1994, Mr. Boone portrayed Will Rogers in the musical comedy, "The Will Rogers Follies. He received rave reviews during the musical's seven-month run. An excellent athlete, Mr. Boone takes part in golf tournaments, celebrity softball and basketball games, jogging, and workouts. He has his own golf tournament in Chattanooga, Tennessee, to benefit a home for children whose parents are in prison. He annually hosts Easter Seals golf events in Baltimore, Phoenix, Tucson, and Seattle.
