Dr. Goodacre develops CD with lecture materials
Charles Goodacre, SD'71, DDS, MSD, dean, hands Michael Erickson, SD'02, a new evidence-based interactive CD that was developed by the dean and Jaime Lozada, PG'87, PG'95, director of the implant dentistry graduate program. The CD contains a predoctoral course on implant dentistry that includes textual material, illustrations with captions, video clips, references with synopses of each reference, and a self-assessment examination. The CD covers 13 topics in the field of advanced implant dentistry. The program contains interactive links whereby students can study the material prior to class and prepare for the quiz each day. The formal class time is then devoted to critical thinking and problem solving based on students asking questions and faculty being able to facilitate discussion. Faculty who have participated include Drs. Lozada and Goodacre; Suzanne McCormick, MS, DDS; Alan Herford, SD'94; and Tord Lundgren, DDS, representing the disciplines of oral surgery, periodontics, and implant dentistry. As the students and faculty discuss the questions, both potential and definitive answers to the questions are explored. Students are encouraged to challenge the concepts, practices, and principles that have been identified in the CD material and their reading.
