School of Dentistry bids farewell to Florence Wetmore
by Nancy L. Yuen

Florence Wetmore, administrative assistant, admires a gift that was given to her during her farewell luncheon on January 19.

In 1985 the General Conference of Seventh-day Adventists relocated Jack Wetmore, a loss control manager with the organization's insurance department, to the Riverside office to oversee projects on the West Coast. His wife, Florence, didn't look forward to the move. She liked where she lived and enjoyed her work as an editorial assistant helping put together Sabbath School Lesson Quarterlies.

Shortly after the couple moved, they wondered if the East Coast weather hadn't followed them when the Loma Linda/Redlands area was hit with a snowstorm!

But Florence soon found a new work family to join—and began working in Ron Dailey's office in the School of Dentistry in 1987. Four years later, she was able to use her knowledge of the workings of the General Conference when she began working as an administrative assistant to Dr. Crawford.

Dr. Crawford takes the floor to say thank you to Florence Wetmore, administrative assistant, during her retirement luncheon. Also present were Dr. Goodacre and Ruthy Goodacre, and many of Florence's co-workers and friends.

During the years Florence has worked with Dr. Crawford on requests from the General Conference and around the world, her knowledge of geography has increased.
"Now [on a world map] I can point out some of the smaller countries, such as Cameroon, right away,” she says.

"The best part of my job,” she confides, "has been working with dedicated people who often give up the comforts of home to do mission work." She has also enjoyed working with missionaries as they have returned to the School to complete continuing education courses during their furloughs, and alumni who return to the campus for Alumni Student Conventions.

"When the missionaries are on their four-month furloughs to the United States,” she informs, "they are busy gathering equipment and supplies for their dental clinics.”

She has also used her editorial skills to publish the NASDAD newsletter, and has contributed articles to Dentalgram.

The Wetmores have 2 grown children and 7 grandchildren. Florence is looking forward to traveling with her husband, reading, gardening, and spending more time with her grandchildren.

The School of Dentistry hinted that her skills will continue to be sought after as a volunteer and presented her with a volunteer jacket embroidered with her name.
