Junior Dental Auxiliary helps local children
by Jennifer Wilcox, president, JDA

The Junior Dental Auxiliary (JDA) recently put up a giving tree in the dental school lounge. The Auxiliary, with members who are spouses of dental students, asked for donations of checks or gifts for needy children in our community.

In the two weeks before the School break $100 in cash contributions and three boxes of new and gently used toys had been donated. JDA doubled the money to equal $200, and Wal-Mart doubled that amount.

So a total of $400 and three huge boxes of toys were donated to Family Services Centers of Riverside and San Bernardino counties. The recipients were grateful and look forward to working with the Auxiliary again next year.

Several children were treated to a holiday shopping spree at Wal-Mart with a firefighter/police officer escort. The escorts were just for fun—children love their heroes.

The Auxiliary is thankful to everyone who participated and helped make the project a success. A special thanks to Odie Fonture for going out of her way to help. The Auxiliary is already planning next year’s fundraiser—watch for us next year!
