Dental educational services

• Frank Cortez-Flores
was pleased to have received a letter from the Executive Secretary

of the American Board of Dental Public Health (ABDPH), informing and congratulating him that he has achieved board eligibility. This qualifies Dr. Cortez-Flores to take the ABDPH board examination to become board certified in dental public health.

The examinations are held prior to and in conjunction with the annual meeting of the American Association of Public Health Dentistry. Dr. Cortez-Flores is in the process of completing two case reports and preparing for the examination.

Dental hygiene

A warm welcome to Janeen Duff, ’81, who has joined the dental hygiene department as a part-time faculty member.

Endodontics


• The department of endodontics welcomes Dawn Pfeifle back to the department and the office of advanced dental education. Dawn had back surgery six months ago.

• Congratulations to David D. Roland, SD’78, a second-year resident in the advanced education program in endodontics. Dr. Roland has been elected to Who’s Who Among Students in American Universities & Colleges, in recognition of outstanding merit and accomplishment in the graduate program.

Implant Dentistry

Periklis Proussaefs, DDS, MS, assistant professor, received the first place Tylman Award, 2002, from the American Academy of Fixed Prosthodontics (AAFP) for his thesis research project, “Techniques that can improve the resistance of crowns on tooth preparations lacking resistance form.” This award is given once a year. The study will be presented during the 51st Annual meeting of AAFP, February 22–23, 2002, and has been submitted for publication in the Journal of Prosthetic Dentistry. Dr. Proussaefs thanks advisors and mentors: Drs. Charles Goodacre, dean; Wayne Campagni, director, advanced education program in prosthodontics; Guillermo Bernal, associate professor, prosthodontics, and Jay Kim, professor, dental educational services.

Employee news

Welcome to Rudy Moctezuma, laboratory helper, clinic supply; James Peterson, RN, who has joined the Surgery Center staff; and April Camacho, an office aide in the endodontic clinic.

The School family welcomes two returning employees: Keri Adams who now works as an on-call PBX operator, and Danielle Garland who is working for Faculty Dental Offices as a dental assistant.
