To Improve Faculty Wholeness, Performance, and Satisfaction

Taking care of ourselves by Doyle Nick

It never happened when I was 20 or 25, seldom when I was 30, but these days I hear it more and more often. It goes something like this, “Do you remember (name)? Well I just heard that he/she is in the hospital, or was diagnosed with ______ or had a ______.”

Often the sentences are finished with “if they had just known about it sooner.”

Those of us at the School of Dentistry have far less excuse not to know sooner. Our workplace is only one block from the Loma Linda Center for Health Promotion. Due North on Stewert Street is Evans Hall, home to the Center, the International Traveler’s Clinic, and student and employee health services.

We recommend that our patients have a six-month dental exam but often forget about precautions designed to maintain good systemic health.

At the Wellness center the good folks will provide for you (risk management co-pay is $20) a wellness profile. This is a detailed physical examination involving among other things a questionnaire, treadmill test, and a host of other possible tests that are designed to help assess state of health and possible health risks. At a follow up appointment a concerned, knowledgeable, unhurried physician will help the patient design a plan for living a healthier, fitter life.

If your New Year’s resolutions included better health—or even if they didn’t—now is the time to make an appointment for better living. The phone number is: (909) 558-4594.
