Dental hygiene

Michael Tobola, DH’03, and his wife, Aimee, became parents of a beautiful baby boy, Andrew Michael, on December 31 just hours before the New Year began.

Rhonda Hamerslough, MA, RDH, DH ’91, assistant professor, completed her EdS coursework at La Sierra University fall quarter, 2002. She is continuing at La Sierra University, working toward an EdD which she hopes to complete the summer of 2003.

 

 

 

 

 


ODRP

Heidi L. Christensen, SD’83, MS, associate professor, oral diagnosis, radiology, and pathology, attended the Clinical Preventative Dentistry Leadership Conference on Caries Prevention: Transitioning from Classroom to Clinical Practice. The conference took place at the Procter & Gamble Health Care Research Center in Cincinnati, Ohio, December 11 to 13. The conference objective was to advance the transition of caries prevention and remineralization from classroom instruction into the clinical management process.

In addition, Dr. Christensen has been accepted into the American Dental Education Association 2003–2004 Leadership Institute.



Periodontics

Dr. Robert Kiger has assumed the responsibility of director of dental services at the Jerry L. Pettis Veterans Administration Hospital in Loma Linda. Dr. Kiger began his leadership there on a half-time basis on January 20, 2003 while continuing to serve as chair of the department of periodontics on a half-time basis until the end of the quarter. He will then begin working full-time for the VA hospital. Dr. Kiger has provided excellent leadership to the department and the School, and has provided exceptional teaching skills.


Welcome

Please give a warm welcome to Lisa Sanchez, RDA, who joined the department of periodontics. She has 25 years of experience in private practice, and her knowledge and outgoing personality are an asset to the department.

Welcome back to Jesus Rodriguez , RDA, OSA. Mr. Rodrigues is a former employee of the oral implantology department. He has 11 years of experience as a dental assistant and dental laboratory technician. The department welcomes his operating room knowledge and experience.

Strategic planning

Drs. Joseph Caruso
, director, advanced education program in orthodontics and dentofacial orthopedics; Thomas Rogers, dental education services; and Robert Frazer, Jr., R.L. Frazer and Associates, will be presenting a symposium titled “Creating a Future of Choice Through Applied Strategic Planning” at the American Dental Educational Association annual session on March 9 in San Antonio, Texas.
