Faculty Development Workshop held January 19-20, 2003
On January 19 and 20, about 40 faculty members from the
School of Dentistry and about 10 from other LLU schools participated
in a faculty development workshop sponsored by the School of Dentistry.
This workshop was designed to benefit teachers effectiveness in
all areas: clinical, pre-clinical, and classroom teaching, and was designed
to assist teachers in achieving excellence and progress in their careers.
The first speaker each day was Dr. Laura Alipoon from LLU School of
Allied Health Professions. She spoke about humor, laughter, healing,
communication, and understanding.
The main speaker was Bill Hendricson, an educational expert from University
of Texas Health Sciences Center, San Antonio. He is recognized for his
experience, insight and knowledge, and he focused on the roles and techniques
of clinical and didactic teaching, trends in dental education, and expectations
for the future.
Dr. Eric Johnson, a physical therapist from LLU School of Health Professions,
led the participants in stress reducing exercises and strategies to
deal with the repetitive and closely focused work we do.
The icing on the cake was the several massage school students who practiced
their craft to our comfort and delight.
The evaluations of this event have been overwhelmingly positive indicating
that the time was well spent and the benefits were substantial. The
