Sixth annual Buell Endodontic Surgery Conference held The Sixth Annual Buell Endodontic Surgery Conference was held in Coleman Pavilion December 3 and 4. The Conference was attended by nearly 250 dentists from all over the United States and Canada, and even from as far away as South Africa, Lebanon, and Japan. The conference is named after Dr. Ronald Buell, a pioneer in endodontics and one of the early professors of endodontics in the School of Dentistry. A share of profits from the Conference is dedicated to the Buell Endodontic Fund, which has been developed to eventually fund a professor chair in the School of Dentistry. Currently the Buell Fund is the largest endowed fund in the School at about $500,000. The coordinator of the surgery conference was Mahmoud Torabinejad, DMD, MSD, PhD, director of the advanced education program in endodontics. Dr. Torabinejad has been the Conference coordinator for all six conferences, which have become very popular with both practicing endodontists and residents in endodontic programs around the United States. The speakers are leaders in their fields and covered topics including comparisons of various procedures. Besides Dr. Torabinejad, the other speakers were Drs. Donald Arens, Noah Chivian, James Gutmann, Kenneth Hargreaves, Jeffrey Hutter, Frederick Kahn, Jaime Lozada (PG'87, director of the implant dentistry program), Peter Nordland (MS'82, assistant professor of periodontics), Samuel Kratchman, John Ricci, Richard Rubinstein, Barnet Shulman, John Stropko, Jack Weichman, and John West.
