Alumni–Student Convention, 2002

During the convention, current students, faculty, and staff help give tours of Prince Hall To visiting alumni, parents, and guests. Here William Hooker, PhD, MFCC, associate dean, student affairs, speaks to those gathered for a tour of the School.

The Alumni Student Convention, 2002, will soon arrive—a time to reunite with classmates, attend continuing education courses, relax, and enjoy the many events for alumni, spouses, students, and friends of the School that have been planned.

The Convention will be held February 7 to 11. The opening event is the Golf Tournament at Redlands Country Club, Thursday, February 7.

The same morning, attendees may learn about current research during Scientific Sessions
(formerly known as Mini Clinics).

Student Table Clinic Presentations will take place at 9:00 a.m. in Wong Kerlee International Conference Center. Participants viewing all presentations will be awarded 2 California continuing dental education credits (completion of the Table Clinic Questionnaire is required).
The School of Dentistry is sponsoring “Full TEAM Ahead,” from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. The event features Sam Horn, president of Life Balance, Inc.

Ms. Horn’s clients include Hewlett-Packard, Fortune 500 Forum, Four Seasons Resorts, and others.

The Homecoming Reception (in place of the Homecoming Banquet), will begin at 4:30 p.m. in the Wong Kerlee International Conference Center. Dress is casual for this event, and alumni and their spouses will have the opportunity to greet and visit with classmates and friends. The incoming officers and Board members will be introduced, as well.

Friday, February 8

On Friday, the Annual Missionary Dentists & Prayer Breakfast will be held in Fellowship Hall, followed by Scientific Sessions.

Paul Eleazor, DDS, MS, professor and chair, department of endodontics and pulp biology, University of Alabama, Birmingham, will present “Endodontic Potpourri,” a course for the general dentist, at 8:00 a.m.*

A course for dental hygienists and dental assistants titled Changing Concepts of Ultrasonics and Air Polishing—Fact Vs. Fiction, begins at 8:00 a.m.*

Two luncheons are scheduled on Friday: the OKU honor society luncheon (location to be

announced), and the Dental Hygienists & Assistants Luncheon, Redlands Country Club.
At 2:00 p.m., the Family Day Reception and Tour will be held. According to Kathleen Moore, MHIS, director, Alumni Association, the tours of the School provide valuable insight. Participants, including parents of first-year students, have commented that the tours have helped them better understand the complexity of the School and its clinics, and how they function together.

Randall L. Roberts, DMin, MFT, senior pastor of the University Church, will be keynote speaker for the Student Dedication Program, beginning at 4:00 in the University Church.
The Alumni Association sponsors this event, during which each entering student is presented a personalized, leather-bound Bible. The dental and dental hygiene classes of 2002 are also dedicated in a ceremony, and will receive a personalized laboratory coat embroidered with School of Dentistry insignia.

“Students have commented that the Bibles, imprinted with their name and professional title, have brought peace and direction to their lives during the challenging times in school and beyond,” says Ms. Moore.

Saturday and Sunday, February 9 and 10

Early Church at Worship begins at 8:30 a.m. in the University Church of Seventh-day Adventists, followed by Church at Study, 10:00 a.m. A second Church at Worship service will be held at 11:15 a.m.

The Sabbath Luncheon will be held at 12:30 in the Campus Cafeteria ($13 per adult and $5 per child under 12 years old).

The University Church Sanctuary Brass will present a vespers service at 4:00 p.m. in the University Church. School of Dentistry alumni will be featured during this event.

The Alumni Student Convention concludes Sunday, with courses in Esthetic Dentistry* (8:30 a.m.); and the Anesthesia Symposium.*
