Rotary Club supports service learning trips
By Barbara Bostwick

The San Bernardino Crossroads Rotary Club has given $250 to the Service Learning Department in support of their student trips to provide dental care to underserved populations.

Earlier this year Fred Kasischke, assistant dean for admissions and service learning, visited the Rotary Club with two dental students who talked of their recent mission trips to Haiti and Mexico. Michael Stafford, D4 and Chad Ordelheide, D3 brought personal insights about their experiences and how much they appreciated the ability to participate in these trips with other students and faculty members.

In presenting the gift, Crossroads Rotary Club president Treva Webster commented that supporting humanitarian projects throughout the world was a major emphasis for Rotary. Her board voted to support the School of Dentistry’s outreach, not only because it benefited the patients, but also provided a valuable learning experience for the students who might then continue to participate in such programs throughout their lives.
