Clinic Administration

* Congratulations to Linda Roddick, assisant supervisor for dental
assistants, Loma Linda Endodontics, for receiving her AA degree from Crafton
Community College. Linda acheived this by attending classes in the evening
while working full time for Loma Linda Endodontics.
* Marisela Mendez, of central sterilization, gave birth to a beautiful
baby girl on May 25, 2000 at 8:30am. The baby was 7lbs 8oz.

| When the construction
for the addition to Prince Hall was begun about 18 months ago, picnic
areas were dismantled and palm trees cut down. Now there's a shady,
pleasant spot for the tables, between University Court and the Good
Samaritan sculptures. |

Dental Hygiene
Rhonda Hamerslough, RDH, full time faculty member, received her Master
of Arts degree in Education from Azusa Pacific University in early May.
Marilynn Heyde, DH'74, has joined our department spring quarter
as a part time faculty member. She brings to our department a broad experience
in dental hygiene practice in several states. She will receive her MPH
degree from the School of Public Health this June. She and her husband
George are happy to be back to their families in Southern California.
George is the vice president for finance at La Sierra University.
Educational Support Services
Sam Sadanala is our new, full-time staff member. He has a bachelor's
degree in graphic arts from the University of Maryland. Mr. Sadanala's
responsibilities include customer service, as well as scanning, Photoshop
retouching, and other related duties. He joins Richard Tinker, director;
Richard Cross, photography and video coordinator; and Christy Robinson,
editorial coordinator.
Educational Support Services provides services to dental school faculty
at no charge. Services include: presentation development, photography,
scanning slides and photos, video taping and non-linear editing, writing
and editing, publicity materials design, research poster production, and
web page design.
International Dentist Program
Ming-Way Lee, SD'86I, professor of restorative dentistry-IDP, gave
a computerized presentation for the Chinese American Dental Society of
Southern California on May 21 at the Community Health Education Center
of San Gabriel. The topic was ÒTreatment of the Abraded Dentition - A
comprehensive review for the general practitioners.Ó About 70 dentists
attended the presentation. Dr. Lee is grateful to Richard Cross for his
excellent work in editing, and compressing the video clips into a compact
disc for the Powerpoint presentation.
Orthodontics
Department chair, Joseph M. Caruso, SD'73, MS'75, and our graduate
students attended the 100th Annual Session of American Association of
Orthodontists in Chicago, Illinois, April 27 - May 2. Dr. Caruso participated
in the Tuesday morning session as a room moderator for the Doctor's Scientific
Program. The second year students sat for the written examination of the
American Board of Orthodontics.
Restorative Dentistry
The Department of Restorative Dentistry gives a great big ÒthanksÓ to
the DAU staff for their superb job in assisting the instructors during
SCCE II.

Service Learning
Kids Care Faire, held in Drayson Center on April 30, drew thousands
of children from the Inland Empire. LLUSD students and service learning
director Ron Forde, SD'83, screened hundreds of children that day.
