Faculty receive honors

School of Dentistry Distinguished Service Award

William S. Seibly, SD'59, PhD
professor of restorative dentistry

Dr. Seibly earned a BA degree in 1955 from La Sierra College and two degrees from Loma Linda University: his DDS in 1959, and a PhD in physiology in 1981. He has been in private practice since 1959. He is also currently a consultant for a dental laboratory and supply firm and is president of Vista Management and of Grand View Ministries.

Since joining the faculty of Loma Linda University in 1984, he has filled both academic and administrative positions. He has taught and conducted research in the School of Dentistry departments of oral medicine and of restorative dentistry, in the International Dentist Program, and in the School of Medicine department of physiology and pharmacology. From 1984 - 1998 he was associate director of the International Dentist Program. In addition, he has served as president of the School's Dental Alumni Association (1965-66) and as chair of the Faculty Senate (1985-86).
Dr. Seibly has presented workshops, particpated in conferences, and given lectures in various national and international locales; has co-authored a book chapter; and has published articles and critical reviews.

Dr. Seibly holds membership in national and international professional organizations, including Omicron Kappa Upsilon, the dental honor society; and since 1962 has participated in dental study clubs and presented local and national table clinics. From 1979 to 1993, he presented continuing education courses not only in the School of Dentistry but also in various southern California venues, in the state of Colorado, and in such distant regions as Iceland and Russia. He has served on many committees for the School of Dentistry as well as for the University. Very dedicated to the Seventh-day Adventist church, Dr. Seibly has held positions such as Sabbath School leader for junior to adult divisions, Pathfinder leader, and church elder.

For his commitment to and creative participation in the education process, and in recognition of his long and distinguished faculty and administrative service, the School of Dentistry is pleased to honor Dr. Seibly with the School Distinguished Service Award.
