The first department of oral and maxillofacial surgery
alumni dinner was held Saturday evening, February 8, at the Redlands
Country Club.
In attendance were present full-time OMS faculty, Dr. Alan Herford,
chair & program director, Dr. Philip Boyne, past program director,
and Drs. Liviu Eftimie and Wayne Tanaka.
Many part-time members of the attending staff were also present. All
current OMS residents hosted the following OMS alumni: Drs. Lawrence
Day 69, Thomas Scott 71, Lawrence Hundley, Jr. 73,
Frederick Mantz 73, Frederick Bunch 76, L. Albert Lewis
78, Jon Shafqat 84, Frederick Mathews 87, Mark Womack
91, Harvey Zalsman, Jr. 94, Gary Chan 95, Liviu Eftimie
98, and David Gilbert 99.
Following the dinner, Drs. Herford and Cooper gave a presentation on
the current status of the department and changes in the residency program.
Dr. Boyne presented a short review of the latest research productivity
of the department including results of recent studies on bone induction
and distraction osteogenesis.
Dr. Herford welcomed and thanked Dr. & Mrs. George Gamboa for their
generous financial support of the OMS alumni meeting, and Dr. &
Mrs. Boyne for their recent gift to LLU establishing a fund subsidizing
medical school tuition costs for the new MD-OMS residents.
