CutterSil Putty Plus Provisional

Materials needed: 1) CutterSil Putty Plus (1 scoop/quadrant); 2) Coe Impression Tray (sectional); 3) Integrity or Protemp temporary material

Rapidly mix the CutterSil putty, load the tray, and seat it over the teeth to be crowned. The patient closes to keep the tray in position while hardening. Allow 2 minutes for thorough hardening. Remove the tray from the patient’s mouth.

To avoid an inadequate amount of temporary material at the margins, an acrylic bur is used to remove 1 mm of putty at the gingival 1/3 of the buccal and lingual surfaces inside of the area to be temporized.

Do not remove any material from the interproximal area, thus avoiding locking the temporary onto the tooth.

Using a Sharpie, mark the cuspid so the tray can be easily repositioned in the mouth after mixing the temporary material.

Mix and load the Protemp in the enlarged area and reposition into the mouth. Have the patient close. Wait 2 minutes and remove the tray from the mouth.

Tease the temporary from the putty matrix and refine the finish line using a #7404 Brassaler finishing bur. Try the temporary in the mouth and adjust the occlusal and proximal contacts.

Polish first with a rag wheel and moist pumice, followed with Wright’s silver polish on the rag wheel. Wright’s silver polish will give a very smooth surface with a natural luster.
