Shelly Withers, a dental hygienist
with Faculty Dental Office becomes ‘Tiger’s target’

 

Marci Stirl, front office coordinator, Faculty Dental Office, made a special card for Shelly Withers, instructor, dental hygiene, after Shelly was struck by a golf ball hit by Tiger Woods.

“Fore!”

When Shelly Withers, instructor, dental hygiene, heard Tiger Woods shout during the Buick Invitational Golf Tournament at Torrey Pines in San Diego, she immediately covered her head with her hands.

She was standing with the fans watching the tournament near the landing area for the drive. Unfortunately the drive had a lower trajectory than normal. The golf ball hit her on her left leg.

“Tiger came over and asked who he had hit,” she recalls. “However, when Tiger approached, everyone crowded around and I was trying work out the charley horse, so the play began without him knowing who he hit!”

Several faculty and staff watched the incident on television.
