employee appreciation
Employee appreciation: The School of Dentistry showed their appreciation for the dedicated work of LLUSD employees by holding an Employee Appreciation luncheon on April 21 in the Wong Kerlee International Conference Center. As staff members arrived, they were greeted by Dr. Charles J. Goodacre, dean of the School, and Mary Hartwell, dental clinics manager. After choosing from a delicious buffet of sandwiches, fruit, and pastry, staff and faculty gathered at tables in a conference room. It was pleasant to spend a bit of time, relaxing with people you don't see everyday. Employee Appreciation Day is an annual celebration which grew out of Secretaries' Day.

Dental Hygiene
phonathon   phonathon
Randall Tosten, DH'01, and Tomas Kutansky, DH'00, called dental hygiene alumni during the anual phonathon.   Heather Dunham, DH'98, enjoyed talking with her classmates.

* Dental hygiene department benefits from phonathon: Faculty, students and alumni joined together in April to call dental hygiene alumni on behalf of their Annual Fund campaign. They raised over $7,000 in pledges, which augments gifts previously received this year.

Twenty-five callers talked with almost 300 alumni during the phonathon. In addition to the Annual Fund, which supports the dental hygiene loan fund, alumni also made gifts to the Violet Bates Scholarship Fund and the Hartzell Scholarship Endowment.

* Rhonda Hamerslough, RDH, instructor, and Karen Simpson, DH'66, MPH, chair and assistant professor of dental hygiene, attended the AADS convention in Washington, DC.

* The dental hygiene Class of 2000 pinning ceremony will take place on Friday, May 26, 2000 at 6:00 p.m. at Campus Hill Church. The dental hygiene pin has a traditional and personal meaning to each dental hygienist. Receiving the pin means that each graduate has been prepared to become a caregiver and is accepting the responsibilities of a health care professional who will devote their time in serving "To Make Man Whole" as is the tradition of Loma Linda University.
