ESP chooses Oakwood student

The diversity committee of the
School of Dentistry has selected Trevor Vincent Fraser as the Early
Selection Program (ESP) participant for the year 2000. Trevor is currently
completing his junior year at Oakwood College in Huntsville, Alabama.
He is scheduled to complete a bachelor of science degree with a major
in biology in May 2001. Trevor was on the LLU campus last summer for
the careers in dentistry workshop. He is currently the president of
the pre-dental club, where he has assisted students in shadowing dentists,
as well as put together an educational program in oral health care
for children of students on campus.
Trevor will be coming to LLUSD in August of this year to participate
in ESP, and then be enrolled in classes with the freshman dental
students during the fall quarter. He will then return to Oakwood
College to complete his degree program.
The ESP was established to identify promising students in minority
communities that have an interest in dentistry. Mueni Mutinga, SD'01,
and Phillip McIver, SD'03, were previous ESP participants in 1995
and 1997. Mr. Fraser is coming in under a partnership agreement
established between Oakwood College and LLUSD. The program's goal
is to assist pre-dental students in the competitive admission process
as well as provide a more gradual transition into the dental school
curriculum at LLUSD.
