Faculty development
submitted by Doyle Nick

Teacher of the year
Faculty, students, and staff recently received ballots to vote for Teacher of the Year and made their choice based on specific criteria. To be nominated, faculty should have worked half-time or more for at least three years and taught basic or behavioral science courses, pre-clinical courses, or instructed in the clinic. The nominations have been tallied and the final winner will be selected from one of four faculty members who will soon be notified by the office of academic affairs. These four faculty members are esteemed as exemplary professionals in dental education.

Faculty development retreat—July 14 and 15, 2002
Plan now to attend the Faculty Development Retreat July 14 and 15 at the ShelterPointe Hotel in San Diego. Topics covered will include dental-related concerns; cultural issues; learning styles and differences; and evaluation—test item writing, test design, clinical evaluation, summative vs. formative evaluation, and much more.

Faculty development committee
Faculty development committee will sponsor a seminar on committee leadership and participation. This will be open to all faculty and will present principles, tips, and rules for committee work. This seminar is essential for committee chairs and will be useful to any faculty member.
