The School’s computer services department recently pulled the plug on the Data General MV9500 computer, which had been in use by the School since 1978.

According to Carl Imthurn, computer programmer/analyst, the computer was used as a data repository for virtually all School and clinic information until June 30, 1999.

The dental supply and sterilization departments used the computer until late 2001 when they began using other programs

“In our preparation for Y2K,” informs Mr. Imthurn, “we realized that the Data General was not Y2K compliant. The computer, which had very little memory was also old, slow, and tired. After lengthy research it was decided that we would switch to the Quick Recovery System.”

The Data General computer was kept running until the information that was used to run reports could be backed up. The computer was finally unplugged on Thursday, April 25, 2002.
