Pine Springs Ranch Family Retreat memories

The Pine Springs Ranch Family Retreat provided students, faculty, staff, and their families the opportunity to relax and fellowship.

After checking in Friday, October 20, and enjoying Friday evening supper in the dining hall, Charles J. Goodacre, SD'71; MSD, dean, welcomed the group to evening fellowship in the Ponderosa Room. The group Faith First provided special music, and led the audience in a group sing.

Jonathan Henderson, pastor for campus ministries, Campus Hill Church, was the evening speaker.

The group then enjoyed hot chocolate, milk, and cookies by the fireplace in the dining hall. Later in the evening, Roger Plata, SD'74, set up a telescope near the lodge and shared his knowledge about stars and planets. He also invited the group to meet before sunrise the next morning to continue looking at the heavens.

On Sabbath, children attended a program of singing and crafts while the adults listened to Lloyd Dayes MD, PhD, DMin, professor of neurological surgery, present the sermon, þHe didn't throw the clay away.ú

In the afternoon, the group enjoyed hiking, local scenery, and relaxed. At 4:00, Faith First presented a special musical program.

After dinner, the Ponderosa Room was full to capacity as Joseph Caruso, SD'73, MS'75, and Carlos Moretta, SD'01, were emcees and gameshow hosts for Saturday Night Follies. They presided over two gameshowsÜFamily Feud and the Newly/Oldiewed Game.

During the evening several students took the stage to perform, including Brian Hanratty, who sang a ballad he had composed describing his life as a father of five girls and his experiences as a dental student. During the evening, more than 100 prizes worth more than $5,500 that had been donated by faculty and departments were given away.

Harvey Lee (SD'03), won a trip to Hawaii for five days for two, donated by Carlson Wagonlit University Travel. Cheryl Harrison, DH'68, presented the grand prize.
