Flores

•A lecture/conference presentation by Frank Cortez-Flores, PhD, DDS, MS, MA, MPH, “Aging And Diabetes Mellitus: A Dental Public Health Problem Along The US-Mexico Border” has been converted to web format and is ready at the following address: <http://www. pitt.edu/~super1/lec ture/lec1921/index.htm>. The URL of an additional lecture/presentation, “Dengue, Aedes aegypti, and Hurricane Reconstruction in The Caribbean and Central America: Prevention and Control Following a Natural Disaster” can be accessed at: <http://www.pitt.edu/ ~super1/lecture/lec2771/>. The Supercourse is an Internet-based distance learning material for health-related (medical, nursing, dental, veterinary, etc.) students who are beginners in epidemiology, global health and the Internet. The Supercourse faculty utilize the Supercourse for training students. “We also contribute to the Supercourse as a reviewer, lecture developer, or translator as well advising over the Internet either by providing content, or by discussing with people issues related to prevention,” says Dr. Cortez-Flores. He has contributed three lectures to the Supercourse and is working on a fourth, the new Disaster Supercourse.


Periodontics

  • The periodontics department has a new part-time employee, Tammi Aceres, RDH. She is an OHC instructor. In addition, she works for the graduate periodontic program and the Faculty Dental Offices as a private hygienist.
  • The department has a new part-time faculty member, Masih Shahlaie, BDS. Dr. Shahlaie was a 2001 graduate of the graduate periodontics program.


Sterilization


  • Hilda Trinidad, sterilization technician, is a new grandmother to Logan Stuart, who was born on October 26.


Pediatric Dentistry

Nelson


A warm welcome to Bonnie Nelson, SD’88. Dr. Nelson joins the pediatric dentistry department as an assistant professor. Previously she lived in Vancouver, Washington where she was in private practice. She completed advanced training in pediatric dentistry at Oregon Health Sciences University.

 

 


Dental Laboratory Services

  • Welcome home to George Dobrota, CDT, who recently returned from a trip to People’s Republic of China. Mr. Dobrota and his wife traveled with a group from Loma Linda University Medical Center, and while in China they visited sister institution Sir Run Run Shaw Hospital in Hangzou.


Dental Maintenance

  • Stan Lillard, technician, dental maintenance, and his wife, Joanne, are proud new parents to baby Joshua Jacob Lillard, pictured in his new nursery. Josh was born August 4, and was 7 lb., 11 oz.


New employees

  • A warm welcome to Veronique Daniels, dental assistant, graduate orthodontics and to Aubrie Antinucci, records analyst, International Dentist Program.
  • Welcome back to Christine Garza, who has rejoined the Surgery Center staff.


Congratulations

  • Congratulations are in order to Amy Miller, orthodontics and Daniel Valdez, surgery center, who have earned their RDA certifications.
  • Accolades to Natalie Nairn, radiology, who received her CDA certification.
