Emergency relief and donations for LLUAHSC students,
faculty, and staff impacted
by the California fires

professor, restorative dentistry, took this photo when the fire
was less than three miles from his home. |
At press time, the most recent available figures showed
that 320 employees and students from the Loma Linda campus were forced
to evacuate from their residence. Following are ways the institution
is helping to support these individuals:
LLUAHSC Emergency Relief Fund
In order to provide support for both employees and students on our campus,
we have established a Loma Linda University Adventist Health Sciences
Center (LLUAHSC) Emergency Relief Fund. The fund is being used as an
immediate emergency resource to provide limited cash for food, clothing,
temporary housing, and the replacement of essential personal property.
A committee for employee support is being coordinated by the Chaplains
Department at LLUMC. A committee to support students is being coordinated
by the Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs at LLU. Each committee is
responsible for assessing the individual needs and allocating the funds.
If you wish to donate to this fund, you may do so by delivering a check
to LLU Gift Records, Magan Hall Room 107 or by mailing your check to
the Vice President for Advancement, Magan Hall Room 113, Loma Linda,
CA 92350. All checks should be made out to the LLUAHSC Emergency Relief
Fund. You may also contribute to this fund by completing a payroll deduction
authorization form. This form is available at the Payroll Department
intranet site and will also be e-mailed to all departments. Payroll
deductions may be made on a one-time basis or bi-weekly. Any contributions
to this charitable fund are tax deductible.
Paid Leave Balances
If employees are forced to evacuate from their homes and are unable
to work a regular schedule, they will be able to use paid leave to maintain
income. However, if such an employee exhausts his/her paid leave bank,
LLU will allow the employee to continue to use paid leave to maintain
income. Under these circumstances, the employee’s paid leave bank
will be negative until the employee is able to accrue additional paid
leave hours in the future. The negative leave balance will be limited
to a maximum of 80 hours.
Disaster Centers
A number of LLUAHSC clinical staff, students and volunteers are providing
support at the Disaster Relief Center at the San Bernardino International
Airport location. If you are a clinical professional who is interested
in volunteering, please contact Dr. Debbie Craig. If you wish to volunteer
in a non-clinical capacity, please contact Ron Graybill.
If you or a co-worker need assistance to recover from these fires, please
contact the appropriate public agencies and the LLUMC Chaplain’s
office.
If the fires have not directly impacted you or your family, thank you
again for what you have already done to support your fellow employees.
You may also support the emergency relief effort through one of the
options outlined above. Finally, please remember all of the fire victims
in your prayers.
